A Note from Dorothy Granada

Dear Friends Old and New,

Warmest greetings from Matagalpa. I write to tell you that our combined efforts and hard work of many years are coming to fruition. The Ministry of Health (MINSA) is adopting our model, SKILLS TO SAVE LIVES, of improving the health of women in the countryside by strengthening the knowledge and skills of community health workers (WOMEN’S HEALTH PROMOTERS), by implementing the role of nurse-mentor, and providing permanent accompaniment for WOMEN’S HEALTH PROMOTERS.

The pilot project will end in December of this year with 80 Promoters . Recently two nurse-mentors and I presented the project to directors of all the health districts in the country and were very enthusiastically received. We have been asked to assist other districts to implement the program.

I feel extremely proud and grateful that our work is proving to be useful and is being incorporated into the permanent work of the Ministry of Health. The help of each of you who supported our work over 20 years in Mulukuku as well as supporting our present project has made this possible.

We need about $25,000 to complete the Pilot Project and help MINSA include our project into their work. Please consider helping us complete this work.
